SKIN RESURFACING

photo

Skin resurfacing is a good option for those who have moderate to severe sun damage, or wrinkles at rest. Resurfacing is also excellent for certain types of acne scars.

How much does it cost?

Skin resurfacing pricing depends on the scope of laser treatments needed.

$500 - $4800

Does it hurt?

There is anesthesia for the area treated, which has an initial stinging sensation. During the treatment, there is little discomfort. Patients will receive prescription pain medicine afterward to use if needed.

What is the downtime?

Downtime ranges from five days to two weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. It is best for patients to stay at home during the recovery period. Clients with children will need help with the family for the first three days.

How many treatments will I need?

One time treatment only.

Medical note:

  • Apply sunscreen to the treatment areas two weeks before your treatment.
  • Certain prescription medicines will be given at the consultation and are very important to take. We will discuss this with you at the consultation.
  • For most cases, patients are to come with a driver.
  • Meticulous wound care is the most important component to a healthy recovery. Infections can spoil an optimal result. Expect to invest time in caring for your wounds.

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Do not touch the treatment areas with your hands. Infections are easily transferred by contact, and are the most serious complications of this procedure. Wash your hands often.
  • Wound care dressings will remain on for two days. We may ask you to return to Aspire the next day for a dressing change.
  • Aquaphor ointment is applied around the dressings to keep the uncovered areas moist.
  • Once the dressings are removed, keep the treatment areas moist. The goal is to prevent scabs or crusts from forming. Apply Aquaphor ointment four times a day using a cotton swab.
  • Clean the wounds daily using vinegar/water soaks once your provider tells you to do so. A clear, yellow drainage will be present at the treatment sites the following day. This is normal. It is the body trying to heal itself. Do not pick at or scrub the treated areas.
  • Vinegar/Water Soaks: Combine one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of water and saturate a washcloth. Lightly wring it out and place the wet washcloth on the treatment area for 15 minutes. Remove any crusting by rolling (NOT DRAGGING) the cotton swabs over the area. Expect to use many cotton swabs. Continue these soaks every day until the crusting no longer reappears (one to two weeks).
  • Take any prescribed medicines as directed. Pain medicines are taken as needed.
  • The skin is red during healing, and usually lasts weeks to a month. This can be covered with mineral make-ups after two weeks.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Sunscreen should be used everyday, starting after two weeks. If you need a recommendation, please ask. We will be happy to help you.
  • Baths instead of showers are recommended for the first week to prevent water pressure directly on the face.
